What is ONE CAN?

One Can is an exciting service campaign concept designed for the Nassau County Schools. When Principal Olsen approached me and said she wanted to help end hunger in our county, but traditional food drives seemed to fizzle out over the course of the school year, I had a light bulb moment. What if giving was so easy, so painless, and it allowed the kids to fully participate? The answer? ONE CAN.

ONE CAN will work to stamp out hunger in our county, one can at a time. Each month on School Spirit Day, students will be encouraged to bring in one can from home for a donation to a local food pantry.

The goals are to get kids connected with service and charity, to help kids recognize the power they have to help, and to show them the impact of people working together to make change.

When parents hear their children ask for a can each month, they are encouraged to participate and allow their children to give from the pantry.

The PTO will be supplying a prize each month for the classroom that donates the most cans.

YOU CAN START ONE CAN AT YOUR SCHOOL!!! Your school will be highlighted on this site if you wish.
